Semester One, Blog #1

What are you most excited about for this school year?

This school year I am most excited to do internship. I am excited for internship because I want to go to the East Coast and intern with my aunts and uncles. They do what I want to do in my future, which is becoming a doctor. Most of my family are doctors so they would be able to teach me the fundamentals of becoming a surgeon. Also the fact that they are my family would give me more attention. I can have more in depth conversations because I won't leave them at the end of the day. I would end up staying with them for the entire four weeks. So the day doesn't end at 5 but the day ends when my uncle/ aunt is done teaching me.

What are you most excited about in Humanities?

This school year I am most excited to do Honors. Honors will be a easy way to challenge myself. I have been told that honors is hard but I am willing to do the extra work. During 9th grade I was never strong in Humanities but in 10th grade I was able to put hard work into Humanities and achieve my goal. So I am hoping to achieve my goal again this year but with the standards of honors.

What about in the Our People's History project?

I am most excited to do the interview for Our People's History. The interview will allow me to experience what my grandma experienced when she was pitted against her best friend. I can experience the feeling of being pushed to the limit against my best friend and for competing for the prize of becoming a doctor. I will know how my grandma felt when she lost to her friend and how devastating it might of felt when everything you ever dreamed of was crushed in front of you. And to lose it all to your BEST friend.

Chinese Cultural Revolution Photos

This is connected to Red Scarf Girl because they were destroying the Four Olds. They were destroying the Four Olds in front of Ji-Li. In the book the Red Guards destroy temples, books, signs, ect. And in this picture they are destroying a statue. The statue represents old culture. And by destroying this the are following Chairman Mao's wishes by taking out the old and bringing in the new. Also Ji-Li and her friends walked up and down the street and thought about new Revolutionary names to name the Four Olds stores. Ji-Li also was for the revolution towards the beginning but then she became afraid of fact that she has a bourgeois life style.  Some primary sources that have destroying the Four Olds is the poem that we read yesterday about a little boy becoming a Little Red Soldier. Or the article we read about Shanghai and Peking. In that article they talk about destroying the Four Old signs and replacing them with revolution names.

GPA College Blog 2

I discovered that my overall GPA for 9th grade so far is 3.732. I was a bit surprised that my GPA didn't move at all. I grades have just switched. I had a 88% if English last semester and now I have a 93% in English. And my math grade was the exact opposite. My math went from a 93% to an 88%. If i want to attend MIT i need a higher GPA. But i did keep my GPA over 3.5 but i didn't keep my standard or 3.75. I missed it .02. The reason i dont have a 4.0 is because i did very badly on one big test in math so that dropped my grade a lot. I don't really think that i would get into MIT because my GPA isnt as good as i would like it to be if im going to go to that school. So i would rather chose a easier school to get into and probably go with one of my friends. I would either go into Auburn University or chose a school closer to here. My next step would probably be keeping my grade the same or improving it. Like getting one more question right on a test. Or double checking my answers. Im gonna try to get at least a A- in my core classes for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Since this is April already, im gonna try to raise my grade in math to at least 90% or higher.

Internship Talks

I'm looking for a Internship that i have a good mentor in. And that my mentor pays attention to me and watches what i do when i am there. I would also like to do an internship where everything is hands on. I would also want to do an internship about something i actually like and is my interest. I would also like a mentor that is nice and not strict.

The black guy with the red green lantern jacket. Was the one that seemed to be the most key moment i hi internship. I think this was the most key moment because it was something very difficult to get over, if he didnt have any of his work saved. Because of photoshop document saved he was happy again. If it didnt save it would of made the rest of his internship very miserable. His mentor probably wouldn't get mad at him but it would severely damage the trust he had developed with his mentor.

Suheir Hammad - Def Poetry

Marjane and Suheir show revolution. Marjane has lived through them. She has experienced the first hand affects of war. Suheir explains how people feel about war. Suheir also explains how people respond to the war. And how he families that live in the war have to cope with losing their son or their husband.

Marjane and Suheir show revolutionary. Marjane has always rebelled against he government since she was very young. Marjane has bought tapes of songs that is banned in her country from people on the black market (the street). Marjane has also fled her country, came back and left a couple of times. Suheir show revolutionary by speaking her mind in a country that doesn't care, but is she goes to a different county she could die for it.

Marjane and Suheir show war. Marjane has lived through war. Marjane has lived the first hand effects of the war. Has seen what I does to people. And leaves the country to escape its effects. Suheir explains what war does to a peaceful city. And how it affects the country's population.

Suheir Hammad & Marjane Satrapi on War

"I have danced to your drummed out war" This struck me because a war is the exact some thing over and over with a few changes just like a real drum. "I will not kill for you and especially not die for you" This struck me because I would not die for a plastic key, even with all the "promises" they promise you. And i will not kill just because you told me. And i know most people wont die or kill just because somebody told you to do so. "I will not mourn the death with murder or suicide" This struck me because its true to me. I will not kill people just because this person I never knew died, and I will never kill my self for someone i never knew. "I will not dance with bombs" This struck me because who would want to dance with something that they know will kill them. I think being next to them is a stupid idea.

Some connection i found between Suheir's ideas and Marjane's were that they are both free spirted. Also Marjane and Suheir think that war is stupid. And that war effects people, like their personalty and emotions towards something. And that they wanted to hug a woman. In Marjane's case it was her mom or dad or grandma. In Suheir it was that women mourn about their lost husbands and sons.

Lastly, the thing that struck me the most from Suheir and Persepolis is that war is a very big thing to the people where the war is taking place at. And that many people die in war for a very stupid promise that the government had said. And all wars tears family members apart. And that in Persepolis the west were using Iraq and Iran as guinea pigs to there chemical projects. And that a spoken word is very boring to listen to.

Islam

Role of Women in Islam

My topic was on the role of Women in Islam. The women has to give all her pre-marriage possessions to her husband, and the husband has to pay a dowry. The Quran says that men and women are equal in creation and afterlife. Women have to fast, pray 5 times a day, donate to charity, take a pilgrimage to Mecca, and follow all the rules of Islam. The women is not responsible for the upkeep of the house but should be done. May ask for payment for any work in a domestic atmosphere. The Quran states that woman is not created for the purpose of man, but to benefit each other.
